What can I do with a finance/French double major?
SOAD H asked:
Serious answers please. I am thinking about dropping the French major down to a minor, in undergraduate studies. However, for the moment, I am double-majoring in both finance and French. Everyone to whom I tell this is very impressed, yet the follow-up question is: What are you planning on doing with both majors? I am very interested in real estate right now. What do you propose I do?

You could be an accountant in Montreal. Other than that, Assuming you want to be in finance, I see no other use for the French degree.

You could conduct business overseas in France. You can be a realtor there for Americans wanting to own property in France. You can work in international business as well. You could work for a firm that hires you to expand their network in France… weigh your options before you just give up on it.

Employers always hold multilingual candidates in high regard. If only because it shows a certain level of intelligence and work ethic.
There’s always the opportunity for you to be a translator for a French company who does business in the US, or Vice versa. I would encourage focusing more on finance however, as having a major in French is not quite as important as actually being able to speak it.
My immediate advice would be to consider studying in France if you haven’t already, and really honing your linguistic abilities there. Also consider that with a finance degree, you can actually pursue a career as a Real Estate broker, rather than an agent. Just something to think about
